Meet Sarah Corbett-Winder

Stylist, Personal Shopper and Wardrobe Whisperer.

Stepping inside Sarah Corbett-Winder’s beautiful London townhouse, we are greeted by two floppy-eared bunnies set against a stylish interior complete with rare artistic gems decorating the walls. Just like Sarah herself, her home is a mixture of sophistication and fun, with no detail missed. We caught up to discuss her journey in the fashion industry,
and her best tips for styling the new Spring 22 collection.

Your career is what dreams are made of - styling outfits for a living! What first drew you to the fashion industry?

It was when I was about 10 and I started remembering people for what they were wearing and not their name or their conversation! I knew I had an underlying obsession that I really wanted to explore.

You began your career in the fashion cupboard at Conde Nast. What did you learn from this experience and were there any ‘Devil Wears Prada’ moments?

Gosh, I learnt so much. The most significant thing was not to take it all too seriously. I definitely learnt how to work under pressure and how to never accept ‘no’! I was constantly chasing looks for the magazine and you would be competing with all the other titles, it was a constant battle, ‘no I want that Prada look’! It was amazing to be such a huge part of creating big photoshoots, I learnt to think outside of the box in order to make sure ours stood out.

‘Devil Wears Prada’ moments…I won’t mention names but someone I worked with would always insist on keeping the looks (normally Gucci) for themselves and there were only so many excuses I could come up with. After constantly trying to explain that this wasn’t allowed I was looked at as if I’d murdered their cat! Oh and my favourite was when, again no names, people would put their sunglasses on as they came out of the lift in the office and strut to their desk. This would always have me in hysterics.

What styling tips would you pass on to anyone who wants to dress better?

If you feel comfortable you’ll look comfortable. Getting dressed should be fun, so enjoy it. Don’t think about it too much and be yourself. You won’t wear a cocktail dress and killer heels well to the office. One of my things is to always make sure that everything in your outfit is from the same family- so think tonal, colour and fabrics. And never forget about a good white shirt!

The fashion industry has started to make moves to become more environmentally friendly, which is really exciting. What is your top advice for having a ‘greener’ wardrobe?

I definitely think buying less fast fashion and also when you have a wardrobe clear out, donate to charity or sell your clothes to give them another start in life. And think about what you are buying - will you wear it? Do you really need it? I also think it’s good to be aware of how/where the clothes you are buying are made. I’ve got two daughters and I’ve already got pieces from my wardrobe ready to pass onto them.

What is your favourite pink City prints dress and how would you style it?

Obviously the one I am wearing, the Margaret Mint Hyacinth, and I love this worn with some loafers to toughen it up, a navy blazer and big sunnies. Also great worn with lots of raffia when it gets warmer. A really fab frock.

What are the three things you can’t live without?

My perfume - Portrait of a Lady, my glasses (Celine Sunnies made into glasses) I literally can’t live without them! And my husband.

What’s a superpower you wish you had?

To make more time

Finally, what do you love about Pink City Prints and why?

I love the carefreeness of the brand. It’s fun. The pieces make me smile and they remind me of happy times and you know you're going to have a good time wearing them. They make you feel great.
